An AI assistant that hands work to Claude Code?

Yes. Three kinds of Mac software can do it: session managers that run several coding agents in one window, scripts you write around each CLI, and assistants that treat Claude Code and Codex as tools to brief and follow. Which fits depends on whether coding is your whole job or one step in a larger one.

What should an assistant like that actually do?

Whatever you pick, look for these six behaviors:

  1. It takes a goal and briefs the coding tool in the way that tool expects.
  2. It carries the context each task needs, so you do not retype the background.
  3. It can run independent pieces side by side, each in its own workspace.
  4. It tracks every run and brings the results back to one place.
  5. It stops for decisions that must be yours, such as sign-ins, payments and sensitive approvals, and handles the rest.
  6. It works through your own accounts, under each service's terms.

How do I test one before relying on it?

Pick a small real job with two steps. A hypothetical example, for illustration: fix one failing test, then write a three-line summary of the change for a teammate. Then check:

  • Did the context travel without you retyping it?
  • Could you see which step was running?
  • What did it ask you, and could only you have answered each question?
  • What did the job cost, including charges outside the assistant?
  • Where did the results land?

If any answer is unclear, you are still the go-between.

Can I build this myself with the CLIs?

For coding-only work, yes. Both tools can run without an interactive session: Claude Code with claude -p "your prompt" and Codex with codex exec "your prompt". Wrap each in a script, give each its own git worktree, and write the outputs to one folder. Our post on using Claude Code and Codex together on one Mac walks through that setup.

It gets heavier once the job includes steps that are not coding, retries, or a wait for your decision. If all you need is a better window for juggling sessions, a dedicated manager may suit you better; we compared five in Octuo vs Mac coding-agent managers.

Where Octuo fits

Octuo is a personal assistant that coordinates your AI tools, agents and outside services for you: you say the goal, and it handles the preparation, delegation and follow-up.

Give Octuo a goal. It delegates work to supported tools and agents, including coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex (named as examples only; no partnership or endorsement), carries the context they need and brings the results back. Octuo can install and configure supported CLIs and handle the setup steps it is authorized to perform. You step in for your own account sign-ins, payments and sensitive approvals that must be yours; Octuo handles the surrounding work.

Octuo coordinates work through your own authorized accounts under each service's terms; external service charges remain separate from Octuo. It carries the context it hands over and does not import each vendor's own chat history. Octuo is a native Mac app. See what Octuo does, or watch the demo video. New accounts get 1,000 OC trial credits, once per person, no card. OC stands for Octuo Credits.

FAQ

Do I need a Claude Code or Codex subscription to use Octuo? No. Octuo works on its own with models from several providers, with model choice available to you. If you already use Claude Code or Codex, it can hand work to them.

Is Octuo only for coding? No. Coding agents are one kind of tool it can hand work to. It can also hand tasks to outside services.

When is a session manager the better choice? When your work starts and ends in a repository and you mostly want to see several coding sessions at a glance. Octuo is aimed at jobs where coding is one step among several.
